Hey all! Just shooting a little update into cyberspace about what's going on in my world!
Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme are currently at home and resting from a lengthy 16ish months on the road in support of the Good Things record and the success of "I Need a Dollar" around the globe! Got to do some amazing things, highlights include playing Glastonbury, Montreaux Jazz Festival, TV spots on Conan, Jules Holland New Years Hootenanny, Strictly Come Dancing, multiple performances on Taratata and much more.. as amazing as it was, needless to say we are overjoyed to be home with our family and friends again! I spent a couple days this last week in Red Bull Studios with Aloe and crew recording some new songs written with piano player Jon Batiste.

On the Joel Van Dijk Project front, I have been in woodshed working on some new material for my upcoming project fusing the blues into some more modern elements.. There is no projected release date for the project but you can hear some previews of the material from the boards of Soundwaves Radio Episode 171 featuring yours truly! Courtesy of friend and DJ Seano, this went live on KPFK90.7 here in Los Angeles. Just as well, upon my pilgrimage to the motherland (Grass Valley, CA) I visited twice on the air with Steve Baker and
Thom Myers Blues Show on
KVMR 89.5 as well as visited Thom and The Bandana Blues band for the final Sierra Blues Society's Jam (pictures below). My first time onstage at a club was at one of these events when I was 15 years old playing the blues, sitting in with blues legend "Fingers" Warren..
Other hightlights so far have included playing with Aloe at the Deepak Chopra Sages & Scientists Symposium (great informative seminar with some brilliant minds), one of shows with Mary Akpa (mostly recently seen on the TV Show The Sing-Off), sitting in with great band at The Floor Improv in Hollywood, and getting back in at Manifest Music Productions (currently back in recording/producing rock band "Holly" as well as session playing and more)...
All in all, a great year in progress! Thanks for staying informed and checking out the site, hoping to have some new music coming your way soon. Peace and Blessings to ya'll in cyber space!
